The Eco Pod is a fully functional warm and comfortable environment in which to work, rest or play and can take the form of a living space, office, studio or summer house. Most Eco Pods do not need planning permission and are an idea solution to extending your home. Eco Pods feature three separate environments: a super insulated cosy interior; a light airy conservatory and an external balcony which will allow you to be at one with nature. The emphasis on each space can be varied as you choose. Eco Pods are specifically designed and made using UK timber, natural insulation, plant-based paints and breathable walls. Optional extras include Photo Voltaic solar panels, bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, triple argon glazing or a grass roof.

An Eco Pod in a Garden Environment

Eco Pods are super insulated with a combination of natural and recycled insulation materials. Clad using locally sourced Cedar and European Larch sourced within the Peak District and decorated with oils and plant based paints.

This Pod is fitted with Photovoltaic solar panels providing electricity to the storage batteries which are contained within the seating of the balcony area. The panels will provide enough electricity for this office throughout the summer months; a micro wind generator supplements power during the winter months.

A variety of roof coverings identify the three environments of the Eco Pod. The insulated corrugated roof above the conservatory provides a robust solution inspired by train carriages seen throughout the farming landscapes of the Derbyshire Dales; reminders of the industrial revolution.

The bio-diversity of the sedum roof provides new and changeable visual interest to your garden. Several species of sedum provide a constant change of colour shifting from green to red with white and yellow flowers arriving throughout the seasons, providing colour and extra insulation to the living/working space within.

A balcony covered using woven local coppiced hazel provides an outdoor space to engage with your immediate surroundings.

The electrical power supply to an Eco Pod can be matched to its individual use.
An energy audit will show your power requirements which dictate the size and feasibility of PV and micro wind generators.

Off grid connections using a self generated power supply will increase your understanding of energy consumption and reduce electricity lost through the national grid system. You will become aware of your demands for electricity and gain a real feeling for sustainability within your home.

For high energy usage Eco Pod’s can be connected to the national grid via your house.

The interior of the Pod can be adapted to your personal requirements.  Think of it as a   blank canvas for you to design yourself. Work surfaces; shelving or partitions can be created in a variety of new and recycled materials of your choice. With our experience and skill we can help you make the perfect space knowing that your choices have been made with the environment at heart.

You can choose from a wide range of low wattage halogen; florescent or high intensity LED for task or ambient lighting.  An inverter provides 240v power for sockets to power computers, printers, music systems and many other electrical appliances.

The warm rays from the early morning sun collected in the conservatory can be circulated to heat the inner space to greet you after the cold of the night has gone.
In the same way throughout the day heat from the sun can be extracted to help maintain a cosy room temperature.

The conservatory also provides perfect additional light and an open space for a variety of activities from reading; to simply soaking up the view. It can be tailor made to your dimensions.  If you are a gardener we can install shelving and route water collected from the sedum roof to help propagate your seedlings, vines and mature plants.

The Eco Pod is super-insulated these high levels of insulation reduce the heating demands normally associated with conventional living spaces. All heat produced within the Pod from lights, electrical appliances, body heat, and solar gain from the conservatory remains within the building much longer due to high levels of insulation.  The heating options range from solid fuel; halogen electric heaters or oil filled radiators. A heat exchanger will replace the hot air within the Pod for clean fresh air from outside whilst conserving up to 80% of the heat.
